Artist in Residence:
A fearless and charismatic presence, Simone Baron engages with a broad range of musical languages, traditions, and art forms. Simone has performed internationally throughout Europe, Israel, and North America. While finishing her formal studies in piano and conducting, she fell in love with the accordion. The vibrant sounds and pulsing bellows breathed new life into her musical world, opening the door to collaborations in jazz, world music, and cross-disciplinary projects with dancers, actors, puppeteers, and visual artists. Her reimagination of the accordion’s possibilities are showcased in Arco Belo, her hybrid chamber jazz ensemble with strings and percussion that features original compositions and arrangements.
- Simone has appeared at Carnegie Hall and at prestigious DC venues, including the Kennedy Center, World Bank, and the Hirshhorn Museum.
- Simone studied piano and conducting at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Tel Aviv University’s Buchmann School of Music, and she was an artist in residence in 2016 and 2017 at the Banff Arts Centre in Alberta, Canada.
- As a conductor, Simone has put together chamber orchestras to perform works by celebrated composers including Beethoven, Debussy, and Schoenberg, and has presented accompanying musicology papers and talks.
