AIR Workshop: Gina Sobel

Artist in Residence Workshop:
Improvising for the Non-Improviser
with Gina Sobel
Intended for musicians with an itch to improvise, this workshop is an exciting opportunity to try some spontaneity in a friendly, supportive setting. Sobel covers the minor blues scale and the roles rhythm, repetition, and phrasing play in successful improvisation. The mental blocks associated with freestyling will also be addressed as you work your way from group to individual improvisation.
Having started her musical career as a classical flutist, Sobel is particularly in tune with allowing musicians of traditionally classical instruments the opportunity to flex their improvisational muscle and explore other genres such as pop and jazz. However, all musicians are welcome.
Feel free to bring your favorite instrument(s)!
Free, but registration is required.
