Artist in Residence
Eliot Seppa, bass

Sponsored by Myra Turoff and Ken Weiner

For Eliot Seppa it’s all about that bass! The Washington, DC-based bandleader, arranger, and composer is a master of both the upright and electric bass. His jazz fusion sound is heavily influenced by R&B, hip-hop, gospel, Latin, and African music. Seppa has performed as a sideman for many of the top jazz and R&B acts, including The Impressions, Raul Midón, Benito Gonzalez, Sarah McKenzie, Warren Wolf, and Sharon Clark. He has been described as having the assurance often reserved for much older players, even while retaining the verve of a youthful comer.

  • Seppa received a bachelor’s degree in music from Howard University in 2013 and a master’s degree in music from Howard University in 2018.
  • Without prior experience playing gospel music, Seppa became the bassist at the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel’s Sunday services during his time at Howard University and is now the bass chair in the Music Ministry of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Northeast Washington, DC.
  • He has also performed on radio and television programs such as NPR, The Kojo Nnamdi Show, Live at 5 on WPFW, Fox News, DC Public Television, and Maryland Public Television.
