AIR Workshop
Songs from the Heart: Storytelling Through Songwriting
with AYO

AYO has always seen music as an important vehicle for storytelling. As an adolescent, she found healing and liberation in writing songs that reflected her experiences. At the time, she had no knowledge of music theory and she started playing the piano by ear to reflect how she felt inside. Now a graduate of Howard University’s Jazz Studies program, AYO is equipped with the theoretical tools for a much more refined approach to song construction, but still retains the instinctive simplicity with which she wrote songs years ago. In this workshop, AYO helps you learn to do the same by teaching you the basic chord structures and songwriting skills you need to tell your story.

Ages 12 and up. No musical experience is required; just authenticity and openness to the stories of others.
