Artist in Residence
AYO, pop vocalist

Sponsored by Mrs. Patricia Haywood Moore and Dr. Roscoe M. Moore, Jr.

AYO’s smooth pop vocals channel messages of empowerment. Born in Atlanta and raised in Nigeria, her fearless, confident lyrics speak to the challenges of being a black woman in America. This vocalist is no stranger to collaboration, having performed with artists like Chance the Rapper, Andra Day, and Common. Her musical and emotional versatility is on full display in her original songs, which run the gamut from piano-driven soulful ballads to hip-hop influenced upbeat jams.

On January 15, AYO tones it down for an intimate set of her original music with fellow Artists in Residence Lucas Ashby, Nataly Merezhuk, Niccolo Seligmann, and Jake Blount. On January 29, she performs hit pop songs like “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston and her original single “Shinin’” joined by members of Dupont Brass and background vocalists The Soul Sistas.

Don’t miss AYO’s free workshop, Songs from the Heart: Storytelling Through Songwriting, on January 22.
