Registration and Tuition payment will open June 15, 2024.

Ensemble Placement for Registration

If your student is a member of one of our younger ensembles, an evaluation will be emailed to parents prior to June 15 to include recommendation for ensemble placement for 2024/25.
If your child is new to SCC, their acceptance letter will contain their placed ensemble.

TUITION

Preparatory and Apprentice Chorus: $815
Treble/Concert and Tenor Bass: $866
Touring Ensemble: $1100

There is at $50 discount for siblings. Tuition is due before September 9, 2024. Tuition does not include wardrobe. Each student is required to purchase their ensemble uniform, with order instructions and associated costs found on the SCC website. Wardrobe must be ordered at the beginning of the season to ensure delivery prior to dress rehearsals. Wardrobe also includes black socks or tights, and black shoes purchased separately.

SCC requires all students to attend weekly rehearsals and to arrive 5 minutes prior to the start time of rehearsal. Any student who misses 3 or more rehearsals per semester (excused or unexcused) may be prohibited from participating in the corresponding season concert, with participation at the director’s discretion. Please note that 2 late arrivals to rehearsals equals one absence.

Choral Retreats

SCC holds two mandatory Saturday retreats per year for all choristers, one each in the fall and spring semesters. The dates are given at the beginning of the year. All retreats will be held from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville, MD. We require all choristers to bring a bagged lunch and attend for a full day of singing and friendship! More information will be sent as we approach the dates.

Tech Rehearsals

As we approach our concerts, SCC holds two mandatory Tech Rehearsals per semester, in addition to the regular ensemble weekly rehearsals. Any student who misses a Tech Rehearsal will not be permitted to participate in the corresponding concert unless the director is aware and has excused the student prior to the rehearsal. Any student who does not attend a Tech Rehearsal without giving their director prior notice will not be permitted to participate.

Homework

SCC asks all students to complete their weekly rehearsal homework and to hand in assignments at each weekly rehearsal. Each ensemble has parent volunteers located at the rehearsal room entrance to collect all homework, take attendance, and answer any questions. It is your student’s responsibility to submit their completed assignments weekly.

SCC is incorporating Musicianship Modules into all ensemble curriculums. This will be additional, at-home class work for all students to complete. Your ensemble director will send these assignments to parents monthly and will include completion and submission instructions.

All choristers access rehearsal via our Traffic Circle Dropoff/Pickup. The circle is located behind our main building and is accessed via Tuckerman Lane. Parent volunteers are present to assist students in our younger ensembles. If a parent wishes to observe rehearsal and walk their child inside, please park in the metro garage or on Tuckerman Lane. There is NO PARKING permitted in the upper lot. Please note that on evenings when Strathmore has an event, your car will be towed if parked in that lot.

Preparatory Chorus is the introductory ensemble at SCC. Children in grades 2 through 5 are introduced to sight-reading, and instruction in basic music theory. Singers will learn techniques that are safe and suitable for the young voice. We prepare them for advancement into upper ensembles with instruction in choral and performance etiquette.

Preparatory Chorus is the introductory ensemble at SCC. Children in grades 2 through 5 are introduced to sight-reading, and instruction in basic music theory. Treble Chorus is comprised of children in grades 5 through 10 who are early in their vocal music education and are selected according to age and skill level.

Students learn more complex and detailed repertoire and receive intermediate-level music and sight-reading instruction. In addition to our winter and spring concerts, the Treble Chorus allows ensemble members to partner with other local and national ensembles, such as the National Philharmonic Chorale.
