National Philharmonic

There is much to celebrate during the 2008-2009 National Philharmonic season. The fall kicks off with Andreas Makris’ Strathmore Overture and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (“Choral”). Over the course of the year, the versatile National Philharmonic Chorale will have many more opportunities to celebrate under the direction of Artistic Director, Stan Engebretson. In January, Maestro Piotr Gajewski will celebrate his 50th birthday by taking the stage and conducting: Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration, Ravel’s Alborada del Gracioso, and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. |

Washington Performing Arts Society
Don’t miss Washington Performing Arts Society’s 2008/09 season at Strathmore! Classical music’s most acclaimed soloists and ensembles are showcased in the Celebrity Series, including Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Midori, the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Leon Fleisher, Olga Kern, and the Tokyo String Quartet with Lynn Harrell. Experience commanding performances by celebrated pianists András Schiff, Maurizio Pollini, Richard Goode, and Krystian Zimerman in the WPAS Piano Masters series.
