Artist in Residence: Mary Alouette, gypsy jazz vocalist Presented by Strathmore Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 7:30 PM Mansion
Singer Mary Alouette is a gypsy jazz vocalist with a penchant for beautiful music and dangerous rhythm. Under Mary’s mastery, musical theater and opera segue into gypsy jazz, with added electronic and classical elements in her compositions. The Maryland native has sung the National Anthem for the Orioles, the Nationals, and DC United before stadium crowds, and she’s performed worldwide from Carnegie Hall to Montréal to the Schlern International Music Festival in the Italian Alps and at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Truly eclectic!
As part of Strathmore's Artist in Residence program, Mary presents two public performances on April 4 and 25. Mary's April 25 performance will include the world premiere of a new work commissioned by Strathmore.
