What can one say about an artist of the flawless technique and seemingly limitless virtuosity of violinist Joshua Bell? Gramophone Magazine puts it simply: “Bell is dazzling”—and never more so than in his appearances with the beloved Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, who just named him as its new Music Director to replace founder Sir Neville Marriner. Savor the artistry of these world-renowned musicians in this all-Beethoven program, which juxtaposes three works written around the same time but in vividly different moods: the dramatic Coriolan Overture, the monumental Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61, and the buoyant Symphony No. 4 in B Flat Major, Op. 60.
