World Doctors Orchestra was founded in 2007 as a non-profit organization by Prof. Stefan Willich, Director of the Institute for Social Medicine of the Charite Hospital Berlin. The orchestra has over 500 physician members from 36 countries. Its mission is to raise awareness that healthcare is a basic human right and a precondition for human development and productivity. Members meet several times a year for intensive rehearsals culminating in a benefit performance for medical aid projects. This Washington, D.C. concert benefits Whitman-Walker Health and is also a remembrance of 9/11 and a plea for peaceful solutions to world problems.
