Shai Wosner, piano |
It’s a rare treat to hear the wild, darkly exuberant music of Eastern Europe in the hands of the Czech maestro and BBC Symphony Chief Conductor Jirí Belohlávek. He takes us from the ebullient Carnival Overture of Dvorák, and the gypsy rhythms of the Hungarian town of Galánta, to his compatriot Janácek’s orchestral masterpiece, Taras Bulba, which tells the epic tale of a Slavic hero’s indomitable will and courage. The young Israeli-American Shai Wosner provides repose in Beethoven’s serene Piano Concerto No. 4.
