So You Think You Can’t Sing: Harmony Edition with John Horman
Mondays, May 10, 17, 24, 31
7:30–9pm
Mansion at Strathmore

Learn to blend your voice with others! John Horman guides singers through the basics of note reading, part-singing and harmonizing in a group.

This course will concentrate on both improving an individual’s singing competency and extending it to group singing in harmony. Repertoire from a variety of historical periods will be used to move group singing from simple unison to two and three parts. Participants will experience the following kinds of activities during the four weeks of the course:

• Individual vocal evaluation as requested
• Rhythmic games and activities to foster melodic and rhythmic independence
• Rounds, canons, partner songs and easy 2-3 part songs
• Improvisation activities to create instant harmonic arrangements
• Creating original simple melodies to short poems and verses
• An introduction to the history and meaning of notation
• Following a score

Recommended age: adults

Tuition $135/person
