Andalusian music is a musical and poetic tradition from Medieval Andalusia that has been preserved in North Africa since the Reconquista. This concert features luminaries of classical Andalusian music. The critically acclaimed Orchestra of Tangier performs the lovely vocal and instrumental suite "Hijaz al-Kabir," led by Ahmed Zaitouni, widely considered the last of the living legends of Andalusian music in Morocco. The Tunisian singer Lotfi Bouchnak, one of the greatest Arab musicians of all time, performs "Malouf" from Tunisia and "Wasla" from Egypt with his ensemble. The 22-year-old vocal virtuoso Marouan Hajji from Fes opens the concert with a Sufi song.
