Explore the history of opera in America, its place in late-19th century D.C. society, and the life of John Esputa, the leader of the first African-American opera company in this lecture/demonstration/performance with pianist Raymond Jackson (Howard University), Professor Karen Ahlquist (George Washington University), Professor Patrick Warfield (Georgetown University) and Professor Katherine Preston (William and Mary), hosted by Post-Classical Ensemble Artistic Director Joseph Horowitz.
