Filled with timeless Gershwin tunes, including “Summertime” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” Porgy and Bess portrays the struggles of African American life in the 1930s on the fictitious Catfish Row in Charleston, South Carolina. Kevin Deas, renowned for his riveting portrayal of Porgy, leads an all star cast. The Duke Ellington School for the Arts Chorus augments the National Philharmonic Chorale for this very special performance under the direction of guest conductor Gary M. Schneider.
