What makes something beautiful? From the tiny swirl of a snail’s shell to the sweeping majesty of the Milky Way, the mysterious Golden Ratio influences the perception of beauty in nature, art and architecture. This concert explores that mystery with best-selling author Mario Livio as he shares some of the most popular theories of art and science, including the mysterious properties of The Golden Ratio, the curious number that appears throughout nature and art and inspired the best-selling novel, The Da Vinci Code. The program will also explore the connection between symmetry and beauty in the works of Bach, Mozart and Schoenberg’s romantic Verklärte Nacht.
