Versatile singer and Tony-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell flexes his jazz chops with songs from the Ellington musicals Sophisticated Ladies, Play On and the rarely-heard Queenie Pie. He'll be joined by the Helen Hayes-winner Julia Nixon and the dazzling tap footwork of DC's own Manzari Brothers—all backed by the incomparable Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. You'll hear many favorites including "Satin Doll," "Take the ‘A’ Train" and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore."

Big Band Ellington: Duke Goes Latin

The Grammy-winning Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra directed by Arturo O’Farrill is joined by 10-time Grammy-winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Paquito D’Rivera in recreating the sound of the fabled Duke Ellington big band sound with such classics as “Caravan” and “In a Sentimental Mood,” and performing new pieces inspired by Ellington.
